Challenge #2 Show Us Your Pets
It's time to turn Rover into a cupcake!
This challenge is for our dogs, cats, gold fish, guinea pigs, snakes, birds, hamsters, and all the other adorable animals in our lives. We love our pets and we really love turning them into cupcakes!

In Hello, Cupcake!: Irresistibly Playful Creations Anyone Can Make we made  pupcakes  to resemble our terriers,  a Westie (Scout), a Schnauzer (Lucky), and a  Wheaton (Bunny).  We  used mini cupcakes for the heads and stacked them on standard size cupcakes for the bodies. We made the ears and snouts from mini-marshmallows and used candy coated sunflower for the nose and the eyes. The fur was added using a ziplock bag and a frosting color to match the dog. The complete instructions are on the More Cupcake Designs Page.

We also made kitty cats using a runt for the nose, mentos and fruit chews for the mouth, and M&Ms and licorice lace for the eyes. The ears are pieces of cookie cut to shape. We crafted the multiple color fur with frosting from a ziplock bag.
The fish bones were made from white chocolate and the paws were made from mini marshmallows.

One more idea was sent to us by a young reader named Ben who turned his lovable little guinea pig into a cupcake. He didn't give us instructions be he clearly frosted the cupcake, used marshmallows for the ears, candy for the eyes and nose, and it looks like chiclets for the teeth.

Sounds easy, right? Well it is. Using candy and snacks for the basic ingredients, we challenge you to show us your favorite pets. Use one of the techniques from Hello, Cupcake!, one of the techniques here, or go out on a limb and invent your own technique.

Show us how much you love your pet by turning it into a cupcake!

Every month Hello, Cupcake! authors Alan and Karen are going to give members a cupcaking challenge with basic instructions. As a member all you have to do is take the challenge. You can follow the instructions and do what we do or better yet give us your spin on the cupcake design and out-do what we do. At the end of the month we ask that you post a photo of your cupcake challenge on your blog or on our group page at Flickr. It's free to join, it's easy to be a member, and it is going to be a lot of fun. Instructions for joining are below. It's a great way to share cupcaking ideas and designs, so let's get this club started.
